OIL OF OREGANO’S HEALTH BENEFITS
When my doctor first told me about Oil of Oregano… I remember thinking like the stuff you put on pizza? Then I recalled how my sister told me about a friend who just couldn’t get over their respiratory infection and Oil of Oregano did the trick.
Let me tell you though… it is one of the worst things you will put in your mouth. But it kicks butt when you feel like you are coming down with something and need to wipe it out fast. I swear by this stuff and take it with me whenever I go on Vacation.
What Is Oil of Oregano
From my research, I have found 3 types of oils from the oregano plant. You can get oregano oil, which is similar to olive oil. Then you get the essential oils from the oregano plant which is like the crazy straight up oil stuff, like highly concentrated. And then you can get the Oil of Oregano, which is diluted oil from the leaves of the oregano plant. This is the one I use… and it works just fine.
The oregano plant has been around for centuries. It’s mainly known for being part of the Mediterranean cuisine, mainly grown in Italy, Greece, and Spain, but did you know Egypt has been growing it for 3000 years?!
What Is Oil of Oregano Used For?
Hippocrates was one of the first documented to use the oil. He used it to help with stomachaches to treat skin infections. In ancient times it was also known for healing wounds, protecting food from bacteria, aiding indigestion, and was used to treat food poisoning. Pretty crazy, huh?
So, today we use oil of oregano to kill bacteria, fungi, yeast, parasites, and viruses. It is also used to treat diarrhea, intestinal gas, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs, nervous tension, breathing difficulties, dandruff, diaper rash, rheumatism, earache, toothache, bee stings, and venomous bites, as well as to relieve cramps, reduce fever and the effects of mumps and measles!
After that, you’d think it was a miracle herb! Maybe that’s why the Greek translation of Oregano is “Joy of the Mountains”.

How To Use Oil Of Oregano
Now you don’t have to go straight for the hard stuff. You can add oregano to your cooking or sip on it as tea. But if you do want the health benefits quickly to relieve indigestion or when you are feeling a cold come on, Oil of Oregano is the best option.
Oil of Oregano is very strong and isn’t meant for long-term use and if you take the undiluted stuff (essential oils form), it could damage your liver. This is why Oil of Oregano is safer to use.
How Often
Just put a few drops under your tongue a few times a day. If that’s too much, dilute it in some water. Do this for a few days when you feel a cold coming on and trust me… it will go away VERY QUICKLY. Make sure you have a glass of water nearby though! This baby is still very strong.
Oh, and it’s also great for topical use as well. Take it from good ole’ Hippocrates, he knew what he was doing.
