FINDING LIFE’S BALANCE: TAKE THE ‘ASSESSING YOUR LIFE BALANCE’ TEST

When we are unhappy, we know we need to make some changes in our lives. Each day we make choices on how to live our lives and where we should direct that energy to go. So, when we feel unhappy its usually because we aren’t giving the energy and attention to where we need it.

We usually have to make some adjustments or even some big changes. The idea of making these changes can be overwhelming and scary to know where to even start.

Where To Start

Well here’s the good news… You already have started! Contemplation is the first step. You are sitting there thinking, UGH, I’m not happy. Then the second stage in the process is, I’m not happy and this needs to change… that’s processing it… Congratulations.

Taking Action

For me, taking action meant going to a counselor who could give me direction. Which has been an awesome experience and would recommend it to anyone who just feels “lost”.

One of the exercises she had me do was to color the image below. It’s called Assessing Your Life Balance (click link for printable version).

Table could not be displayed.

How It Works

Each category will have its own color. Soooo… get those crayons out! Find the assigned number from the Sections & Statement page with the corresponding number on each pie slice. You color each slice on a scale from 1-100 (100 being you are amazing and do it all the time, 1 is… umm not so much, if at all)

So… Print and Color away!

How To Assess

Now you have your chart all colored in and hopefully, it looks like a full pretty rainbow (but, it probably doesn’t and that’s ok!). Take a step back and look where your strengths are and then where the areas that are lacking in color and that’s where you need to focus your attention on.

My Experience

What I found interesting were the areas I had fewer colored pies. I thought I was a well-rounded person but clearly, I was really neglecting major aspects of my life. For me, I was missing out on two important pieces that were not fully colored in and it was really affecting my overall happiness.

The pieces of my chart were emotional and intelligence. They were absent from my life and therefore I was not being fulfilled or growing as a whole. I had NO CLUE. To feel satisfied as a person, you have to have that equilibrium of Physical, Spiritual, Social, Financial, Emotional and Intellectual balance.

Moving Towards Fulfillment

There is a 3rd page on the link above. This page helps you make goals towards those changes. Now the hard part… taking action!

Sometimes it’s really hard to see the forest for the trees… But it is possible. One day at a time, one foot in front of the other… right? Take your time and don’t expect to fix it all overnight.

It’s Worth It

This assessment made a huge impact in my life and helped me be aware of what was missing, which was causing me unhappiness and void. I have already seen improvements by being aware and now working on those goals.

Let me know what your thoughts are about this assessment test in the comments below! I’d love to know your reactions and if you think this is something that could help you.
