LAVENDER TURMERIC MOON MILK

This isn’t your Grandmother’s warm milk she drank before bed every night. This Lavender Turmeric Moon Milk has got your Grandmother’s drink beat, hands down. It has the antioxidants of blueberries and the warm soothing herbs of Turmeric and Lavender all in a Dairy-Free version.

What Is Moon Milk

Moon milk is a warm drink that is derived from Ayurvedic traditions. The drink usually consists of honey, cinnamon and cow’s milk but this concept of blending warm milk, herbs, and spices is not new. Although it is making a good come back, maybe because we all could use a nice warm drink to help soothe our nerves.

Ingredients in Moon Milk

Most Moon Milks are a blend of cardamom, cinnamon, and an herb called ashwagandha. Ashwagandha has been used for hundreds of years and is known for its anxiety-easing properties.

I personally don’t put ashwagandha in my drinks. It is safe for most people to consume but it could interact with thyroid, blood pressure, and blood sugar medications. I am on thyroid medication and don’t want to take the chance. But if you aren’t… go for it because Ashwagandha has some really amazing benefits!

The great thing about Moon Milks is, you can add whatever herbs and spices that you love in a warm milk and sip it for some great benefits.

Benefits of Drinking Lavender Turmeric Moon Milk

Turmeric

Turmeric not only is a beautiful orange spice but it also has amazing health benefits. It’s a strong anti-inflammatory that blocks the action of inflammatory molecules in the body. It can help those suffering from conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

There is also growing evidence that curcumin that is found in Turmeric can cross the blood-brain barrier and may help to protect against Alzheimer’s disease.

Lavender

Lavender is a flowering plant in the mint family that’s easily identified by its sweet floral scent. It is used to treat headaches, nervousness or restlessness to anxiety, and menstrual cramps.

Blueberries

Blueberries are known as a superfood because they have been shown to help in boosting immunity and reduce the risk of diabetes, obesity, and heart diseases. They are packed with vitamins like C, B6, and K along with minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium. Blueberries are also lower in sugar than most fruits. Now you can see why they are considered a superfood!

Stevia

Traditionally Moon Milk has honey in the warm milk. I would love to use honey and think it would be amazing in the drink but I’m trying to eliminate all sugars from my diet. Stevia is a good substitute, allowing you to sweeten your foods and drinks without raising your blood sugar. I love Trim Healthy Mama Stevia because it is pure stevia and doesn’t have a bitter aftertaste.
