INSTANT POT HOMEMADE BONE BROTH

Watch To See How Easy Making Bone Broth Really Is…

Bone Broth can be very expensive when you buy it at the store (if you get the good kind). Well, you could buy the shelved, full of preservative stuff… but why? You want bone broth for all its vital nutrients and minerals, not the garbage they add to it, so it can sit on the shelves for years. Ahhh that stuff is terrible!

Grandmother Knows Best

Growing up my grandmother ALWAYS had a huge pot on the stove full of veggies and bones. As kids, we used to think she was a witch as she would stand above her pot-stirring and saying… “Good Stuff… Good Stuff”.

Hey, she lived till she was 90 years old and still smart as a whip up till that day. I honestly contribute it to her diet, which was heavily influenced by Bone Broth and other strange things. Boy, I wish she was still around, as I’m now learning about the amazing benefits of what she ate growing up and was part of their life’s staples.

Benefits Of Bone Broth

When you take bones and marrow, skin and feet, tendons and ligaments (which can’t be eaten directly), you boil and then simmer them for over a period of 12 hours. This releases healing compounds like collagen, proline, glycine, and glutamine, that have powerful healing properties for your body.

Consuming these amino acids has been shown to reduce inflammation in the respiratory system, improve digestion, help in wound healing, skin aging, and more!

Instant Pot vs Stove Top

Although my grandmother would cook her bone broth for days, heating and reheating it, today we have a few options to speed things along, with an Instant Pot. Don’t get me wrong there are probably more benefits to cooking on a stovetop and letting it simmer forever. ‘But who’s got time for that… and I still want the benefits. I know GREEDY!

Instant Pot Still Does The Job

The most important thing is, does your bone broth gel when cooled? The gel is a sure sign that your bone broth contains all the amazing benefits like gelatin, minerals, amino acids, and more.

Cooking my bone broth on high for 2 hours still gels when it’s cooled and has the taste of my grandmother’s broth. Although I will say, my 3 quart Instant Pot could be a little bigger. But for one person, it gives me a few days of bone broth and takes me 10 minutes to prep. I set my Instant Pot on for 120 minutes and I don’t have to babysit it.

Maybe It’s Time To Get An Instant Pot

However you decide to cook your bone broth, it is still much healthier and more fresh (without all those added preservatives) than the ones you are getting pre-made at the store. So if you got an Instant Pot, try out this super quick recipe… it’s sooo easy, I promise you! Or maybe you are looking to buy an Instant Pot… this could be your main reason to get one. You’ll love it!

Equipment

  • Instant Pot
  • Strainer
  • Mason Jar (or container to store Bone Broth)

Ingredients

  • 1 Carrot (chopped)
  • 1 Celery (chopped)
  • ½ Onion (chopped)
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • Herbs (bay leafs, rosemary, thyme etc.)
  • 1 lbs Bones
  • 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Whole Black Peppercorn
  • 4 Cups Water

Instructions

  • Cut up vegetables. Place veggess, bones, apple cider vinegar, peppercorns and salt in the Instant Pot.
  • Fill the Instant Pot with water to 1-inch below the MAX fill line.
  • Lock the lid onto the Instant Pot and set the steam release knob to the sealing position.
  • St your Instant Pot for high pressure for 120 minutes.
  • Once the two hours is up, allow the pressure to release naturally. It will take about 15-30 minutes, then the valve will drop.
  • Strain the broth with a strainer and cool. A good broth will usually have a layer of fat on the top, and will gelatinize when thoroughly cool. Remove the fat with a spoon and discard.
