ROASTED CHICORY ROOT COFFEE

Coffee has a lot of caffeine… which is why we drink it, right?! But unfortunately for many of us, it can be inflammatory and addicting. Especially those of us with an Autoimmune Disease… Coffee is a huge NO NO.

What Is Chicory Root?

If you roast and ground the root of the chicory plant (Cichorium intybus), this gives you Roasted Chicory Root, which is also known as, Chicory Coffee. The crazy thing is Roasted Chicory has been used as a coffee substitute for well over 2 centuries. That’s a long time… so maybe you have heard of it. For me, I only became familiar with it when I was diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease and had to cut back on almost everything!

Benefits Of Chicory Root

Anti-Inflammatory

Here’s the great thing about Chicory Root, is it has anti-inflammatory properties! So yes…maybe giving up your coffee sounds almost impossible. But when you can replace coffee with a herb that tastes a lot like coffee and has an aroma of caramel and is anti-inflammatory… Then you might have a winner!

In a clinical trial, they gave individuals, who had arthritis in the hips and knees, chicory root. And the cool thing is, 20% of them saw improvements in pain and stiffness in those areas. I know, 20% doesn’t sound like a lot but when that pain is reduced even a little, that’s a huge improvement coming from a herbal supplement.

A Probiotic

Inulin is the compound found in Chicory Root and is known for being a prebiotic. Inulin has the ability to promote the growth of specific beneficial (probiotic) gut bacteria, something your coffee can’t do.

Lowers A1c

Here are some more cool facts about that Inulin found in Chicory Root. It has a positive effect on blood glucose and lipid metabolism. So, what this means is it not only helps you control your blood sugar, but it can possibly even help you lose weight!

Helps With Constipation

Due to its inulin content, Chicory Root helps relieve constipation and increase stool frequency. Which is another added bonus in all the benefits that come along with drinking this Root!

How To Make Roasted Chicory Root Coffee

Chicory Root Coffee

Chicory Root Coffee is so simple to make… it brews just like coffee. My favorite is Frontier Co-op Chicory Root Roasted Granules, Certified Organic, Kosher, Non-irradiated. It is fresh, organic, and has the best flavor.

I make it in my small French Press, that I can’t live without!
