WHY YOU SHOULD START ADDING WHITE RICE INTO YOUR DIET

Growing up we were always told don’t eat white rice, it will make you fat! I steered clear away from anything that was rice or rice flour. To me, rice packaging could have had the skull and crossbones on it because that’s how I saw it.

But Sushi became my favorite food and I made some exceptions. You know that once in a blue moon treat. OH and let’s not mention you didn’t eat it if you were getting a degree in Nutrition. That was taboo… cause you only ate brown rice if you ate rice at all! But why are there millions of people around the world who eat white rice (with every meal) and continue to stay so slim?

White Rice vs Brown Rice

Brown rice contains all parts of the grain: bran (full of fiber), germ, and endosperm (which is rich in carbohydrates), it’s considered a whole grain.

White rice has removed the bran and germ, which is why it turns white.

So you are probably thinking well I should eat brown rice over white rice, it has all its nutrients. For some, yes I would agree, but for others, white rice is a better option.

GI Issues

Most grains, including brown rice, contain something called phytic acid which is an anti-nutrient and can cause digestive distress. Too much can actually be toxic.

If you have gastrointestinal (GI) issues or allergies brown rice may be too hard on your system. Brown rice has more fiber, which takes longer to break down, and can be harder for those who suffer from food sensitivity and issues with eating whole grains.
