SKINNY MARGARITA
Who doesn’t love a good Margarita? And if the drink is made right, it can be awesome! As a bartender, Margaritas were my most requested drink, from bartending in SoCal to Las Vegas.
While bartending on Cinco de Mayo, in San Diego, I would have a line out the door for hooooouurs and no joke made over 500 Margaritas, on that day alone! So, when I say… I can make a Margarita, I can make a Margarita!
Too Much Sugar
When you make a Margarita, it’s tequila (of course!), triple sec (which is an orange liquor), and simple syrup. Sugar, sugar, and more sugar!! A lot of the time, I would get requests for skinny Margaritas. And to be honest, they would taste like pretty much tequila and soda water. Which is fine if that’s what you want. But probably not likely…
So I found a way to make a Margarita with a lot less sugar and it tastes just like a great Margarita and has fewer calories and carbs than a skinny one.
Making The Margarita
You will need Tequila (of your choice), Lemon Juice, Zevia Ginger Ale, Margarita Salt, Lime, Jigger, and a Shaker.
I know you are thinking… Zevia Ginger Ale? But the flavor works really well with tequila and lemon juice, to give it the right amount of sweet and sour mixture. I don’t know how, but it works!
Cut the lime into wedges and run it along the rim of the glass. The lime juice is sticky enough to grab the salt and adds more of that zesty lime flavor each time you take a sip.
Dip the rim in the salt, covering as much as you want on the top of the glass. Some people prefer a lot… others just like it on one side. Your choice.
In a shaker, add about 4-5 cubes of ice, then 1.5oz of tequila.
Add 1oz of lemon juice.
Add 1/2 cup of Zevia Ginger Ale. This depends on how big your glass is. If drinking it in a rocks glass, just top the glass off.
Stir the cocktail… DON’T SHAKE! If you shake the soda will explode.
Pour into prepared glass and garnish with lime. And Viola! You just made yourself a Skinny Margarita! Enjoy…
Don’t Drink? Make It A Virgin…
This also makes for a great virgin Margarita! Just add 1oz of lemon juice to a rocks glass, top off with Zevia Ginger Ale, and a squeeze of lime. That’s it… super easy!
