NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN SAN DIEGO

Many people love going to San Diego, either for the amazing Mexican food or for the beautiful beaches. There are so many that it can be overwhelming where to go. But, I’ll give you a little secret on where you need to go, that many people don’t know.

I’m 4th generation San Diegan and when you’ve been there as long as we have, you tend to know all the best spots. Including the best beaches that only the locals know.

The Beach

There are tons of beaches to go to when you are in San Diego. But if you can find a cute little spot that isn’t super crowded and you don’t have a million people in the water… then you found a little piece of heaven.

San Diego Beaches

Located in North County, San Diego (specifically Encinitas), you will find a little tucked away beach, which is a local spot. Most of the beachgoers are surfers, which is always fun to grab some Mexican food and just sit and watch them.

Beacon’s Beach is not the easiest to find and there are only a very few parking spots. This can have its pros and cons. The great thing is it detours a lot of people heading to this beach.

The tough part is, that you have to snag a parking spot early or walk a pretty far distance to the beach. Oh…. and there is a pretty steep cliff to walk down. It’s a switchback trail that’s easy enough for even kids to walk down it. It’s doable but it’s just not the most fun walking back up after a long day at the beach. But again… keeps a lot of excess people away… hehe.

Surfs Up

Beacons was the beach I learned… well let’s be honest, tried to learn how to surf, at. I was never good at surfing but I’d usually go with my dad and brothers here and really did try to learn.

But when that longboard flung out from under me, shot up in the air and came right back down and hit me in the face… I was pretty much done. Maybe I’ll try again one day.

But this is a great place to rent or borrow a board and try surfing. The waves can get pretty big but break further out. This is good because it gives you a good amount of white water to ride in, which is helpful while you learn how to stand up on the board.

Or if you just want to body surf, this beach gets some awesome sets that get really big. I grew up sending hours in the water here and it is so much fun!

Eat Like The Locals

Beacon’s is located right on the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and there are a lot of super cool places to eat. Head over to Karina’s Taco Shop and grab a Carne Asada Burrito… You won’t regret it.

If you are like me and on a special autoimmune diet and wanting some street tacos… don’t worry I got you!
